Lakes Nevada

Lakes of canon entering between the two main lakes of the trunk 5

3 of which are in a close handsome cluster near the head of the canon

(Cascade)

There is a fine cascade a 1000 ft [feet] high on the stream of the canon last mentioned where it descends to the main Nevada trunk.

Lake Hoffmann.

Birds etc.

Outlet full of song – banks in fine colors moss-curtained & rosetted with mimulus

Robins, Jays, & Clark crows abundant

Tamias [chipmunks] daintily swinging on slender sprays in getting cones.

Shores lined with leaves – curved fine as a rainbow

Made a beautiful sunrise with campfire of rosiny mountain Pine.

Lake lies high & is hidden like unmined gold. A cup above the reach of town lips.

Shining with quartz crystals hornblend [hornblende], silvery mica, garnets, zircon & lime.

Spangles leaping like fishes.

Spangles at noon, shadows at night

Stars reflected making double sky

52

Zoned with crystal rocks

Birds & flowers explaining by their own trustfulness the love that fills them

Cassiope & bryanthus, Ferns, birds, lapings [lapping] of small waves. All are voices of God speaking His presence & this love

In winter avalanches of snow from Mt [Mount] Hoffman [Hoffmann] abound making grand music & hail & storms. Cold is the wind then & deep the snow [dark at] the noon hrs [hours] are dark with thronging flakes, all the white landscape [&] clean as heaven.

Wind storm Yo [Yosemite]

The great pines usually so dignified & unbending or bowing slowly are making hasty & low obeisance waving all together prompt to obey the strong arm of the stormwind like a field of wheat, & thin long needles streaming all in one direction outshine the [resplendent] silver firs. The large brown cones of the yellow pine & the polleny aments of the river-bank alders & the ripe golden flower conelets of the Libocedrus are showered about like hail.

We see something of the grandeur of Yo. [Yosemite] Falls but could we see Yosemite winds
