The sunbeaten sides of these two mors [moraines] are [gardens] devoted chiefly to the [Eriogonum], [Compositae] & grasses

A sq [square] [200] contains 5 or 6 Eriogs [Eriogonums], the same Comp [Compositae] & two or 3 tall branches of rye grass, each quite separate with bare gravel & sand [between]

Singularly beautiful cushioned mottled colors purple & yel [yellow], with red & gray soil few woody [shrubs] Purshii ephedra cherry plum, roses

The mor artificial – lake in dir [direction] & [slope] & mixed soil

Planted in art [artificial] way in clumps & [tufts] smoothly raked [between]

The first basin small one small [ ] grove in the middle roots watered by [stream]

2d largest v [very] [level]

its lake does not appear to [have] [been] [deep], because gl [glacier] was [here] flowing nearly level, had [left]
