The mouth of the canon [canyon] consequently is now filled, although upper lake [receives] the drift of the steam

It was filled by washing from side [but] mostly was filled by the gl [glacier] in its [retreat] & by the gl [glacier] stream when the upper basin has occupied by these not only did this second basin then [receive] the stream sand but much [gravel] & boulder placed ready by

the ice was rolled down & over[and] during [freshets]

This basin has damp mead [meadow] on 2 sides. Lake deeper [there]

few sedges & glossy rushes briar rose over all the drier potions, huge poppies gentians look close & see many a moss [Hyp] [Hypnum] & [funaria] & [dicranum] chiefly trees along stream side arrowing [contented] & big brown skinned [ponderosas] limbs most developed on lower side (E)
