Feb. 14th Leave home for [ ] at 9:34 AM Arrive Oakland at 11 AM went to Piedmont Springs [then] to Frederick [Menger] to his home. [ ] [saw] Mrs & the Young Martha [Menger], Charming mother & son & [home]. Had lunch here & at 6 went to lovely old Mrs Miller & family for supper. All delightful. Then to Oakland station a 9 PM pouring rain. Started at 10, [ ] left Richmond about 11:20 [Greeted] by F. Magie whom may Heaven bless. Feb 15. Fair cldy, San Joaquin flooded only along the rivers. Lake-like, in a few places. Fern plants in flower in warm lower parts of the Tehachapi pass. Little snow at top
