Some slight attempts at farming by Kirgis (?) Continuous growth of pines where not cut off. Mountains black with it; country seems dry, the poorest soil since Moscow and here for first time from Urals are out of sight of birch, except perhaps on mountains, or in small thickets, low bush species.
