Burroughs he says I don’t like Mr Berings Sea Because its not steady like Slabsides So it & he Will never agree Because it perturbs the stomach of he Its blue as the sky But O my poor middy It never is steady & cares not a fig for the stomach of me But the saucy seals & the whales [Shake] their [slipping] tails In a way most distressing The salt waters caressing Making me dozzy doleful Its kelp is unlike (not) clover It’s unsteady all over & its seals & its whales Its gulls & its gales Says he Care not a boddle [small Scottish coin almost worthless] for Slabsides or me
Its big & its blue & has whales & a crew not a few of [fine] gulls & seals

J.B. Burroughs [he] who [sayd] I [could] [never] [ ] [like] Mr Berings Sea [Who] & said its doleful a whole [ ] [ ]. [softful] because it’s not steady like Slabsides. The moaning [grinding] & [groaning] of [ ] says he. Its big & its blue & has whales & a crew [not a few] Gay [ ] of porpoise & seals splash merry [rolls] But its [sharper] [windy] all over its kelp is not clover & its seals & its whales its gulls & its gales care not a boddle (nothing at all) for Slabsides or me So J B Burroughs he lies horizontal for the big sea of Bering Can never agree So he lay down & & howled & shivered & growled So he lay flat & limp on his yel[yellow] deck chair with naught but his nose [hair] [showing] & sighing come [girls] [I] [am] [dying] Quick tuck in my toes all 10 of [ ] froze [ ] Shove mine far [ ] away [forever] to stay where icebergs & gl[glaciers] & mad waters [choke] [ ] waters play [push] [quik] [girls] I say when he is going where the [black] [ ] are blowing [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [Choke] him with Nunataks O Cornelia & Mary [I’ve] in comfort & nary [a] glimpse of my York state Soon soon I’ll be shark bait.
