[Sketch: waved, notched outline, continuous lovely line, luminous, silvery sky barred with blue and gray and glassy white.] [Sketch: Chain of islands West of channel, near Fort Simpson.] [August 22, 1897] (1st day). Magnif scenery of Vancouver Isld. Glaciers near middl, grand sculp, lobe beyond lobe changing tones of blue and changing forms of infinite beauty of line. Fine weather, lovely color on water. 2nd day. Aug 23. 100 showers, now on the right, now left, now ahead, now behind; luminous, silvery, between patches of sunlight illuminating forests; drifting clds lighter than thistle down, the gentlest touch of nature. Marvellous growth of forest on sheer mtns, to top. Glaciated, unchanged. Irish moss? [Sketch: Island end near Wrangell]
