April Monday 1, 1895 Cloudy with slight showers. Received proof of Glacier Bay yesterday & corrected it & sent it back today. It is to appear in June in The Century.
Tuesday 2 Fine bright day- busy killing weeds & plowing, doing but little in a literary way. Taking notes, studying another article.
Wednesday 3 Cold & cloudy no rain. Busy improving the Rodgers place. Want to plant a Cherokee rose hedge along the public road. The lovely white flowers will preach to the passers bye [by].
Thursday 4 Clear. A cloud cap on Mt. Diablo. A white one. High barometer. Senator [Covess] Paid me a visit today with his daughter-in-law. The senator had much to say of life in Congress. Chas Sumner, the organization of the Cal. Geological Survey- Forest reserves etc. He is an interesting talker & we had a good day of it.
