2to South America, but seemed to hope that you might give that part up.I had a letter from Helen last week, she was telling me of her baby, also that she was going to Bear Valley in the San Bernardino range where they intend to spend the rest of the summer as the extreme heat was too trying for both her and the little one.I wrote to Wanda but have not heard from her for some time. Helen mentioned your having received the honorary degree of Doctor of Letters, from Yale. You must have a number of honorary degrees now, but John that seems a very long, and I should think a difficult trip for you to be starting out on now, and it must be very hot and trying too. Are you going alone or is there a party? I have been thinking so much about you and I pray that you may be kept and blest in your work.We read your articles in the Atlantic Monthly entitled "My first Summer in the Sierra," It was very interesting and brought back old times when you wrote home so much of it in those early days and all was so eagerly looked for and enjoyed by each one of us.
