Martinez, Dec. 18, 1908.Dear Mr Johnson:We all know that yo[u?] will do all in your power in the endless fight against graft of every sort. In particular, the history of forest & park-making & their preservation on this side of the continent shows you have always been the most influential tireless leader. I have always wondered that under so many other burdens you have been able to accompli[sh?] so much.I have been disabled lately by the Grippe or a severe bronchial cold, which seems likely to keep me at home all winter. But like yourself I'm doing what I can - & how these graft fights consume time! I started months ago to write that little Yosemite book, & have made scarce any prgress on account of this miserable Hetch Hetchy destruction scheme. With best New Years wishesEver yours faithfully John Muir
