Daggett, Cal. May 22Dear Papa,The terrific wind that has been blowing for several days has stopped and today is calm and hot. Calm and warm Helen calls itHelen is well, and cheerful as usual.I am gradually gaining strength and am beginning to feel quite like myself again I took a short horseback ride last night and to day Helen and I are going for a driveMr Van Dyke went "inside" yesterday. He keeps asking when you are coming down here and seems very anxious to have you come back. What a fine old man he is. We were over there day before yesterday and he showed us a great many of his lovely pictures.I am glad that Helen is boarding with the Funks for they are fine people too despite their name, and Mrs Funk gives her nice things to eat and takes good care of her in every wayLittle Jennett is my devoted friend and constant shadow04197
