Martinez Nov. 4 1907Dear Mr LummisMany thanks for your capital Hetch Hetchy defense editorial, It's strong & every blow is called for, & must tell. Keith & I got back two weeks ago from a camp trip to Hetch Hetchy Yosemite & our grand old artist was charmed by it into newness of life. He made 38 sketches, & declares that in fine picturesque park beauty it surpasses Yosemite. There is a short article of mine in the Outlook for Nov. 2d which though not illustrated will give you something like a general picture of the valley as it is, & would be id drowned We are trying to stir up the thousand members of the Sierra Club & as many other lovers of God's mountain handiwork as we can reach to send our protests to Washington in the form of personal letters to the Secretary & President keeping them flying thick as snowflakes in a Sierra storm, until the voice of public opinion can't be mistaken. Light is all that's needed to defeat the plans of these cunning money-changers & water changers
