DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR.BUREAU OF GOVERNMENT LABORATORIES.MANILAOFFICE OR THE SUPERINTENDENT OF LABORATORIES.August 16, 1904John Muir/Martinez, Calif.Dear Dr. Muir:I wish to thank you very much for so kindly sending me a copy of your "Mountains of California", which I find to he very, interesting, and which I am now reading with much pleasure.Since you were in Manila I have been very buisy, as shortly after you left I received two very large collections, those of Dr. Copeland, and those of Mr. Elmer, and accordingly I have as yet not had opportunity to make up a collection of Lamao plants for you. I was over there a few days ago and secured considerable material, and in the near future I shall send you a collection of the more characteristic species, as a reminder of your first and only trip into the forests of the Philippines.Very truly yours[Illegible]03425
