Furse, Esq.,Alphington, Frimley, Surrey, [England],Dear Mr. Furse:I was very glad to receive your letter of January 16, as it was the 1st word from you since we parted on the rim of the great Canyon. It brought back the many happy days we spent together, which will always remain among my best memories.I am sorry to hear your English winter is so unkind to you, and hope that you will soon be as able and lively as ever among your happy gardens and groves.Che lupine you mention is quite common, and I think I can procure you the seeds, perhaps next summer. Anyhow I'll bear it in mind and get them as soon as I can.The weather here is delightful. Oranges have been ripe on our place for more than a month, and the almond trees are in full bloom. Many of the wild flowers are also in bloom, on the hills around our house.
