60[First draft of letter, in note-book]Martinez, Feb. 15, '05.Dear Mr. Colby:I see that our bill is set for next Tuesday. Since the Examiner desired the postponement they must be working hard on new schemes like the one of the Nat[ive] da[ughter]s, to offset which get MacNoble and others to work on some petitions from both Sons and Da[ughter]s and everybody else.I suppose we'll have to go up Monday afternoon, but I think it would be well to ask Mr. H. Friday or Saturday whether the bill was likely to be voted on Tuesday, and telephone me.Evidently we have to fight the battle all over again, and must stir our pegs accordingly.Faithfully yours,[John Muir]03098
