he approves P. attenuata for our San Gabriel Mts.Martinez, Feb 15, 1898My dear Mr. LukensWe are very sorry to hear that dear Lottie has caught Scarlet Fever. It is a dreadful disease & we can sympathize with you & the poor child, for Wanda was nearly [last?] in it. We hope & pray fondly that she will be [spared?] to [us?] all.Helen received the little book she sent & has been waiting for me to go to the city for a book for Lottie. But I have been completely absorbed & made stupid by writing. Your letter came this afternoon just as I completed a long article on the Yellowstone. It will be published in the Atlantic. Now I'm going to begin on the Yosemite Park. & then the Sequoia Park. P. tuberculata on account of saving its seeds can hold its ground on any hillslope however liable to be swept by fire after it is once established. It would be just the tree for the San Gabriel.[Lemons?] articles have fine photographs but too many names & talks about names. Fondly hoping the blessed child will soon recover. I am ever faithfully yours John Muir
