helping me to first appointment as Collaborator in ForestryMartinez, Feb. 21 1899.My dear LukensI received your letter yesterday & immediately wrote the recommendations you requested I dont know either the Sec of the Interior or Hermann. but I sent it to the Care of Pinchot whom I know well & who is at the head of the Forestry Department. The place formerly held by Fernow. I hope you will get the appointment for your are just the man for the place.I'm very sorry to hear such alarming news about your health & devoutly hope the Doctors judgement that you will now be well will prove true Also that Lottie will speedily recover.
