[2] In regard to the matter of which you wrote. I have to say that I have no doubt that you can complete the scientific course in one year as you suggest. I would advise you to get Looms' new work on Astronomy and study, carefully what you can of it. I would recommend also that you read Blair's Rhet- oric Besides Astronomy, one [illegible] a day with me for a term, or [illegible[ [illegible], will enable you to complete the course in mathematics. I think you would be better satisfied, however, to spend two years more here, and study Latin & French: and I have a proposition to make you which will enable you to[3]do it with little or no expense It is my purpose to open next Spring or Fall a Family Boarding School for Boys, at my house near the Uni- versity grounds. I am about putting up a building for the purpose. I shall want some student connected with the University to board with me and have some super- vision of the boys out of school hours and perform some other service which will interfere hardly at all with his own studies Now I know of no one whom I would prefer for the place to yourself. Would it suit you? Let me hear from you on this point soon. We have this term nearly
