Prof Butler paid me a visit last Saturday and I spent a very happy evening with him etc Merril's I sent a book to HenryI hope Dany with all my heart that this will be a happy year with you and be full of pros- parity & satisfaction in the pursuit of your plans We do not know what of trouble [illegible] of joy is to be given us, but surely it is the part of a wise man to nerve himself for either. May our beneficent heavenly Father bless you dear brother and make this New Year & all your other years abound in all that is manly & good Most cordially John
