[First draft of letter, in note-book #59] (16)Mr. F. B. Millard,[1901]My dear Sir:I heartily thank you for your kind letter, and for the clipping from the Examiner, though I had seen it at the time of its publication. It is always pleasant to learn through such appreciative and helpful notices as yours that one's work is not altogether in vain, especially from men like yourself who know how hard [and] laborious any sort of honest literary work is.I shall be very glad to see you at my house any time. I seldom leave home at this time of year. Muir Station on the Santa Fe road is only a few minutes walk from our house.[John Muir]02890
