from Susan Gilroy when she was at Oban in which she mentions a trip she made with Maggie. It is a fine thing to be able to get so easily into fine wild inspiring scenery as there is in abundance in your little rugged highlands & lochs & bold wave dashed shores. I had a fine trip but not in new places, I visited some of my old haunts in the mountains back of Yosemite where first I began my studies of the forests & mountain building & sculptures, visited the giant Sequoias some of which were at least 200 feet high & 15 feet in diameter at the time that Christ walked the earth so noble & venerable are these trees!I also made a trip through one of the grand canons [diacritic] in the old way, living on crackers & lying down by a campfire at night without blankets. & I stood the rough toil fairly well. We are all quite well here. Mother is about as usual Remember me to my friends & believe me ever yours02033[in margin: truly John Muir. Love to Maggie & Susan. When are they coming here]
