Martinez, CaliforniaOctober, 1, 1895My dear cousin,Coming down from the High Sierra, where I have been sauntering & sunning for six weeks, I found your welcome Edinburgh letter & Gilderoy both of which I was glad to get, & I thank you very much for the kind thoughts & care for me, & the trouble you took to copy the Gilderoy. I think it is very interesting, & this is the first I have seen of it. You must have enjoyed the grand old town & the fine sermons you heard, & I hope the change of air has been beneficial for your health. I remember Marie Hay quite well, I liked all the Hays & it must be a great pleasure to be so near them as to see them often Scotland is so small & so is England. One cannot separate far on such an island which is one advantage. I had a letter02033
