Dear Mr Rowell.I am very sorry to say that I shall not be able to be with you [illegible] I see by the newspaper that the President [illegible] leave S.F. on the 14th of May, & by that time I must be in Boston & a few days later sail for Europe - Will you kindly convey my regrets to the Pres & say that I hope to see him some time in the Sierra when he has more [leisure?].
