November 14, 1901.R.W.GILDER EDITOR.R.U.JOHNSON,ASSOCIATE EDITOR.C.C.BUEL,ASSISTANT EDITOR.Mr. JOhn Muir,Martinez, California. My dear Muir:What do you say to writing for The Century an article on the Grand Casion of the Colorado? Mr. Maxfield Parrish, one of our best artists, is going to the Southwest to illustrate some other articles for us, and is going into the Grand Canon. We have asked him to make a series of pictures. Will you do the text? If I remember correctly you did not include this subject in your Atlantic series or in the Houghton book, but even if you did you can write another article for us on the same subject.I should say that five or six thousand words would do. Mr. Parrish has just left for Phoenix, Arizona. We presume it will not be necessary for you to go down to the canon again. Please let me know how you are inclined to this proposition and how soon you can send us the text.Faithfully yours,Mr. John Muir, Martinez, California.[0275[illegible]]
