[2]all who can afford it have fled to summer resorts. I meant to call on John Hall but he is away on vacation trip. I fear it is also hot in California I wish you could all be in the mountains or by the sea somewhere Write many letters however short while I'm in Europe. Send them care of David Douglas Esq 15 A Castle St Edinburgh, Scotland & I will get them wherever I may be Here I had a card handed in & whose do you think it was?. Harry Fielding Reid. I went to his hotel with him & ate dinner with him & his wife. Had a long Alaska talk - got some good photo-graphs of the glaciers. Mrs Reid seemed charmed with the picture of the children & I gave her one. Like everybody else she says Helen is like me01690[3]& handsome. Of course - Wanda also somewhat like me They are going to spend the summer in the mountains of Maryland My! how hot it is tonight. Oh for a lodge in some vast glacier, some boundless contiguity of ice Broad & airy An Arctic prairie Where sultry heat from old Manhatan shore might never reach me more. My useless cloths are falling fast Like leaves of trees in Autumn's blast And flesh & fat I feel is going Like ice in sunshine melting flowing And wit & sense I fear will follow My skill e'en now seems light & hollow Thank Heaven the little left will be Soon cool enough on the breezy sea And then I'll shout a hearty slogan Like that brave sailor Paddy Grogan01690
