writing until this late date. Today I was looking over the map of California and I noticed Martinez which brought to my mind again your name I still reside at Waukesha, Wis. Supt. of Schools for eleven years, but gave up the work about the time I visited California. I am so much pleased with the success you have made of this life and the benefits the world will derive from your writings, While in California in trying to find you, I was informed to a publishing house, which was printing a history of California which you was writing. I think they had one or two volumes printed when I was there. I have read some of your articles in Harpers, also a sketch of your life by Prof Sweet in the Atlantic Monthly I believe.
