Nov. 7. 1885.Dear Sister Mary –I have been looking for a word from you but will not wait longer fearing that you may not be as well as usual after the fatigue of travel and all you passed through here. Sarah wrote me that you did not remain long in Portage. Maggie and John remained her only one day after you, and John Muir and Annie [started?] the following Wednesday; and as Annie Hanson went home the same day, declaring herself tired out, we were left entirely alone. Walter, Ethel, and [myself?]. It seems inexpressibly desolate.28
