[1870] Yosemite Valley March 24My dear sister Mary I have had tidings of you but not from you for a long time indeed You have been hiding amid the [classic?] halls of the state university I am truly glad that your lives have fallen [illegible] to pleasant places. I am glad to know that you are seeking so boldly & persistently after knowledge I am sure that you will be successful. I hope that you will not hurry yourself take plenty of time & [illegible] have money you shall have it too. David will send you some of my money any time you write for it, & next fall I will send you as much as you will require for a year at least 75 I have a great many
