drawings to show you some day What do you think of Lake Mendota in these quiet sunny evenings, perfectly enchanting is it not, I used to walk around lake Monona every Saturday for plants. I enclose you a note of introduction to Mrs Prof Butler She & her husband and their family are warm friends of mine & you will be heartily welcome to their home. You will have no difficulty in finding them, & you must not be bashful. I had the pleasure of meeting Prof Butler last summer in the Yosemite Valley here. I had a letter from him tonight Dr Carr & his family have left Madison. They now live in Oakland California. I have not seen them yet. I wish that you could enjoy the friendship of Mrs Carr. She is an excellent botanist & musician & [partner?] I live now amid the glories of this far[illegible] valley. You will see some Yosemite pictures at Prof Butlers[in margin: Farewell do not study too hard & never give yourself any uneasiness about money.]
