William and Maymie Kimes Annotation
This paperback volume is a gathering of papers presented by nine scholars at a conference, entitled ""The World of John Muir,"" that was sponsored by the University of the Pacific in the fall of 1980. Several of the writers used numerous selected writings of John Muir, all of which are well-documented in footnotes, as are the previously unpublished excerpts, found on pages 1, 6-9, 58, 68, 81, and 83, the last three being from letters. On the cover of the book is a reproduction in color of the heretofore unknown portrait-painting of John Muir by his sister, Mary Muir Hand, courtesy of the John Muir National Historic Site. The contents of this book were included in the 1981 summer issue of The Pacific Historian (v. 25, no. 3), which was published simultaneously with The World of John Muir.
