William and Maymie Kimes Annotation
This book is no. 247 in the Riverside Literature Series. It was also issued with the imprint: Boston, New York, Chicago, San Francisco; BAL notes a copy in printed paper wrappers. An issue in blue cloth has added Dallas added to the imprint. As early as June 1910, Muir wrote to a friend, saying, ""I also have another book nearly ready, made up a lot of animal stories for boys drawn from my experiences as a boy in Scotland and in the wild oak openings of Wisconsin."" (no. 366, v. II, P. 359). We believe this book of animal stories that Muir mention so frenquently to his friends must be the The Boyhood of a Naturalist. Travels in Alaska is referred to in the introduction of all the issues we have seen, thus making their publication after 1915. We have been unable to learn when the book was first published. Contents: I. A New World; ii. Life on a Wisconsin Farm; III. A Paradise of Birds; IV. Young Hunters. The first three chapters are abridged from chapters of the same titles in no. 315; the last one is a reprint of chapter V, same entry.
