Muir, happy to be back in his ""old quarters"" at Fort Wrangell, discloses his plan to travel northward in a canoe with a crew of Stickeen Indians in order to study the glaciers and the forests. S. Hall Young, the Presbyterian missionary, and his little dog, Stickeen, also accompany Muir.
