Utilizing CAD/CAM to Visualize and Create a Smile Design
Presentation Category
CAD/CAM
Introduction/Context/Diagnosis
Utilizing CAD/CAM technology, a patient's smile was designed and altered to suit the patient's complex smile.
Methods/Treatment Plan
Using a trial and error method, we utilized the CAD/ CAM system once we began preparing for the preparations. Starting with a conventional impression, we took diagnostic models. We need duplicated the models and mounted them using the patient's bite records. After realizing the patient was a class three, open bite, we created a wax-up that suited the patient's needs. We then transferred this to cad cam, and did an initial scan to find where we needed to alter the case. Then, we made the corrections, rescanned the final impression of all 6 teeth and sent it in for a master cast. The patient then returned to confirm the master cast with the actual bite.
Results/Outcome
We confirmed the patient's wants, needs and complex bite. The CAD/CAM system was able to give us a very in depth look at what was needed to be corrected.
Significance/Conclusions
By utilizing CAD/CAM technology, we were able to show how useful it can be in visualizing complex cases, in this situation 6 anterior crowns. Our work shows the pros and cons of using this advanced system, and should be equally with conventional work as it allows the patient to stay engaged and encouraged for great results.
