Abstract

Introduction

This work is an effort to bring together certain information found, to some extent, in nearly every book on higher mathematics. Contained herein are certain geometric constructions, equations, and a short history of certain higher plane curves, which, for the most part, have acquired historical significance by being associated with some of the greatest geometers of all times.

It has been experienced that most books, in dealing with this subject, give only a meager method of construction and a very unsatisfactory treatment of the equation. This work, therefore, is an attempt to eliminate that difficulty by an accurate, detailed description of the geometric construction, and a full derivation of the equation. The historical importance is also noted.

Most of the books listed in the bibliography may be found in the main library of the University of California at Berkeley, California.
