Abstract
The Creative Climate Club is used as a way for students at Tully C. Knoles to relax from the stresses of everyday life while also learning about environmentally friendly ways to let out creativity. Through curated activities, students will learn ways to think outside the box when it comes to reusing the items around them using hands-on experiences with different art mediums. This project was created to give students time to unwind during afterschool hours by creating a space for them to improve their patience, confidence, and attention span through a creative outlet without any external stress. During this time, students will be learning about sustainability and climate literacy in an engaging way, putting an emphasis on the day’s specific eco-friendly message during each club session. The goal of each session is to foster a calming environment using as much waste and recycled materials from around the school as possible. By the final session, students will leave the club with confidence in their work, potential new ways to cope with stress, and a better understanding of climate action. The club is created as a way to bridge stress reducing strategies, such as scrap booking and clay making into a fun activity that boosts creativity with an underlying theme of decreasing one’s carbon footprint.
