December 13 1892 - I have received a letter from Cpt. [captain] Bryan, Supt. Q. & Q. S. S. Co. to call up on him immediately, I did so and he informed me that I could take a trip in the steamer “Belgic” boat to Hong Kong via Yokahama, in the capacity of the stewardess if I desired. I did so wish and signed [articles] before returning home. The captain told me there would probably be few passengers out and not much to do and in case I was seasick to lie down and let the boys attend to the passengers. He then coached me in the duties, in fact told me everything was of any consequence concerning the position. “Now don't let anyone make a nurse girl of you
