Speaker Bio

Joanne Ryu, Graduate Student, Speech-Language Pathology (Advisor: Madhu Sundarrajan, PhD, CCC-SLP)

Joanne Ryu is a 2nd year Speech Language Pathology student pursuing her clinical Master's degree. She has a Master's degree in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences from San Diego State University during which she assisted Dr. Arthur Boothroyd on a research project on word recovery in noise and phoneme omission among monolingual and bilingual listeners. Graduated from UC Santa Barbara with a Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics, she was involved in a research study which investigated whether parents were willing to comply with preventative measures for acute otitis media (https://doi.org/10.1044/2015_LSHSS-14-0048) at the Speech and Hearing Sciences Dept with Dr. Jeffrey Danhauer. As a bilingual speaker of Korean and English, she hopes to serve the multicultural and linguistically diverse population.

Jennifer Hederson-Sabes, AuD: Assistant Professor, Audiology

Dr. Henderson-Sabes' fascination with the auditory system, as well as her interest in changes in the brain with hearing loss and rehabilitation, inspired her to pursue a career in audiology. Dr. Henderson-Sabes' areas of expertise are aural rehabilitation and amplification.

Dr. Henderson-Sabes is a Fellow of the American Academy of Audiology. Since 2014 she has been a member of the board of directors for the California Academy of Audiology. She is also a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. She has served as a peer reviewer for the International Journal of Audiology, Audiology and Neurotology and the Journal of American Academy of Audiology.
