Abstract
This manga represents a decade-long journey of creative growth and persistence. During my time at Pacific, I have made meaningful connections with others who share my passion. I finally found the courage to bring this project to physical form. Inspired by the Japanese manga tradition, this work bridges cultural influences by intertwining its visual storytelling with elements of Filipino mythology and folklore. It reflects both my artistic development and my commitment to exploring through narrative.
The ongoing Manga Adhika is a high fantasy set in Filipino mythology and folklore, where gods, elements, and supernatural beings mingle. The main character, Ami, is a 20-year-old college student with the gift of clairvoyance, which she uses to solve mysteries and fight evil spirits. Still, this work takes a toll on her mentally and physically, and she vows to make it her life's mission to take away the gift she considers a curse. Along Ami’s journey, she will gain unexpected friends and foes. Later, she’ll soon realize she’s only seen the surface of what she considers the spirit world. With her clairvoyance, she will gain hidden lore and life lessons, and possibly discover the root of evil, which will cause an unusual occurrence in her country.
With all I’ve learned, I've been motivated to create a comic I have been pondering for a decade, and I've actually started writing it and building its world. It also made me represent Filipino culture, mythology, and folklore. Art is everywhere, and people still enjoy it, which made me realize this medium will help me get my message heard through art, comics, and graphic design. I do what I do because it makes me happy, and it makes other people happy. What I’ve learned is never limit your horizon when it comes to your passions.
