Abstract

This collection of paintings and drawings serves as an homage to the untamed essence of America's past and the indomitable spirit of the Old West. Initiated as an exploration into the portrayal of animals, these works celebrate their tenacity and vigor, as well as their intrinsic connection to the land they inhabit. Throughout history, individuals have been elevated to symbols, immortalized for their deeds and accomplishments. Yet, why do animals often fail to receive the same recognition and reverence? I hold a profound admiration for the working animals that propelled this nation forward over the centuries, as well as for the native North American species that have endured, thriving off the land and serving as a vital resource for both indigenous peoples and the settlers who later called this land their own. As a burgeoning contemporary artist, I have honed my style, seamlessly blending realism with abstraction during my tenure here at Pacific. Employing acrylic paint on canvas, I endeavor to depict various animals with fidelity to their form while also embracing a subjective approach to color. The outcome, I believe, is a series of paintings that captivate the viewer, drawing attention to the essence of the Old West and its inhabitants through both visual allure and faithful representation.
