Abstract/Artist Statement

Volunteer efforts are an essential part of the successful functioning and sustainability of a non-profit organization. A key part of this sustainability is the retention of volunteers and the creation of long-term community partners who are familiar with the needs and missions of an organization. This can be understood via the implementation of volunteer retention and appreciation efforts at Saint Mary’s Dining Hall in Stockton California, with the intention of bettering volunteers' perception of the aid they offer. This positive perception of their service can then lead to an increase in volunteer retention, as well as build upon the strength of community relationships and the power of volunteer recruitment. These efforts include but are not limited to, the creation of engagement activities like a volunteer newsletter, appreciation activities for volunteers, as well as centralizing a volunteer database.
