Abstract/Artist Statement
In the University of the Pacific Master Plan, the University plans to construct a new student residential building called the “Calaveras Quad” which will house 500 – 600 students. AKJJ will provide a site layout for the parking lot to associate with the new living area to ensure sufficient parking spaces for the new Quad building. To accomplish such a task, the University Townhouses will have to be demolished. AKJJ is planning on deconstructing the Townhouses instead of traditional demolition. The project area is approximately 6.8 acres. Sustainability will be an important component of the project, it will be considering the placement of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations throughout the parking lot, a new drainage system that will be implemented in the parking lot. Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) will be performed on various products that will be used in the project like solar panels, asphalt, and concrete to help the project reach its full potential in the long run. A recreational field will be added for the Calaveras Quad building along the side of the parking lot. It will facilitate the students that are living at the Northwest of the Pacific Campus to enjoy out-of-class activities and hangouts.
The proposed project will add value to the growing sustainable vision for the state of California and the University of the Pacific. The expansion of the parking lot will be beneficial for future housing and students and the facility will have more space for activities by expanding the recreational fields.
