Abstract/Artist Statement
Flight—Fantasy for Saxophone Quartet is primarily a journey through rhythmic ideas. The piece should be framed as a contemporary classical representation of many of the metric structures found in dance music today, with variations characteristic of Jared's composition style. Of all the conventional chamber ensembles in existence today, the saxophone quartet arguably captures the brilliance and edge of synthesizer parts in dance music, and would naturally serve as a vessel to express this blending of artistic styles. Formally, it should be treated as a fantasy, each section a departure from the last into uncharted territory.
