Abstract/Artist Statement

This piece was an exercise that turned into a full one movement work. My initial goal for beginning this piece was to have a rather large ensemble of the two families of instruments that I personally think I don't write as well for (winds and brass) and to work out some of the strengths and weaknesses of both families individually as well as blended together. The end goal was to become more familiar with both of these families of instruments so when I would begin to write a large full orchestral work with Strings, Winds, Brass, and Percussion I would be more comfortable, having already experimented with, what I consider to be, my weakest link when it comes to writing for full orchestra.
