Abstract/Artist Statement
KBDM Engineering has designed a 500,000 square foot, tilt-up concrete commercial building for Amazon, Inc. This facility is located at 3616 South B. Street in Stockton, and will provide a commercial and office space for Amazon.com to operate in the Stockton area. Engineering work includes site development, storm water retention design, design of structural members, design of the office space, and foundation design. In developing the site plan, attention was paid to building orientation, grading and drainage, employee and delivery parking, and landscaping. Storm water infrastructure includes pipes, a retention pond, and a subsurface infiltration system. Structural work required the design of the roof diaphragm and supporting members, sizing and spacing of interior columns, design of a typical tilt-up panel with a cutout for loading dock doors, and design of a typical connection of the panel to the roof. The office space layout was designed to create a productive working environment that will adhere to Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements. The building foundation was designed as a series of spread footings. KBDM has prepared the design drawings with REVIT Architecture. Design was completed with an emphasis on structural soundness, with attention paid to functionality, sustainability, and aesthetics. KBDM Engineering designed a functional commercial space while taking into account financial, environmental, and social factors.
