Abstract/Artist Statement
I enjoy sharing my experiences with others. Only speaking about them can become dull so I prefer sharing through photographs. Living abroad is difficult to express in words. There is an amazement of seeing European architecture and landscapes. My inspiration came from the beauty I witnessed specifically in Italy and Ireland during the time I studied abroad in 2012. In this work I am expressing that amazement and beauty. This collection of photographs gives a small taste of what you can experience. Throughout the book there is descriptive text, but I want the photographs to be the main source of information. Along with the book, I am displaying larger prints on the wall. The idea of “leaving my heart in Europe,” is essential because I truly loved living in Europe. While I was not able to travel everywhere, there are specific cities that enthralled me. A piece of the illustrated heart is more vibrant according to the city and how long I was there. You will see that the city of Florence has the largest piece of heart because that is where I called home for almost four months. By exhibiting these photographs, my goal is to express the beauty and amazement that Europe offers and to encourage others to go off and leave their hearts in far away places.
