Abstract
Course Description: Pharmacy students are encouraged to do research as part of the pharmacy curriculum and co-curriculum. Avenues of research include scholarship of discovery, scholarship of integration, scholarship of application, and scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL). A properly designed SoTL project can provide much needed evidence on new learning and assessment techniques. This program will offer some theory behind SoTL-based research for students and new practitioners. A stepwise approach to the development of a meaningful project will be described using a proof-of-concept model to guide the discussion. Four main steps to research including 1.) preliminary groundwork, 2.) logistics, 3.) data analysis, and 4.) dissemination will be presented. Lastly, participants will team up and design a SoTL project, which they can implement within their own institutions, including protocol development and identification of achievable and validated outcomes.
