The sperm entry point polarizes the oocyte/zygote. The sperm cell donates DNA plus a centrosome (blue circle) to the egg. The centrosome acts as a microtubule organizing center (MTOC) for the spindle. The sperm and egg MTOCs move to opposite poles of the cell as the nuclear envelopes disintegrate and the cell becomes diploid.
