Dear Brother John;
I am here at your home spending the day with Louie and the children and Grandma. Louie has been reading to me your letters from the Highlands. I am so glad to know that you are having such a grand time. I am very much interested in all your travels, but especially in your letters from Dunbar. Oh, John, I thank you so much for writing me such a good long and exceedingly interesting letter from there. I can remember all the places in and around Dunbar as though I had been there but yesterday, and the names of the places further out are very familiar.
I am so glad Margaret Lunam has been so kind and friendly to you, and that you have had such a good chance to renew your acquaintance with her and a few other friends of the long ago. I anticipate such a pleasant time when you get home talking with you about the friends and places, especially our folks in Portage. I wonder what Sarah thinks about being Grandma. Perhaps you have heard about Annie Eastman's boy.
Louie's eyes trouble her a good deal, with that exception she is better than she has been. Grandma is about usually well, and Wanda and Helen seem real well. Wanda is growing tall and slender and Helen looks so well. I think you will know quite a difference when you get back. David and Ette are well. D[avid] remembered about all the names and places you mentioned in my letter. Our folks are well. I have not felt quite so well through the hot weather, but am now much better. Am obeying orders. Take good care of yourself, and may God bless you and bring you safe home.
Lovingly,
Margaret [Muir Reid]
