Dear Danl.
I sincerely congratulate you on this your fifteeth Birthday hoping Heavens best blessings will ever rest on you and on all your family It is a [source?] of great comfort to me to think all of my family have been spared thus far —

Last week I had a letter from John informing me that he would leave New York for Scotland on the 24th of this month on the [illegible] steamer Etruria and expects to be across the ocean in seven days, I hope he will have a safe and pleasant voyage although he prefers the wild places of the world, he has been writing another article on Alaska and only finished it while at New York

I had a letter from David quite lately he seems to be quite well satisfied with his home in Cal Ettes father and mother are anxious to go out to them and are trying to sell their places here We are having very dry hot weather at present but still we are all quite well With love to all the family
I am affectionately
