My dear Muir:-I have to-day your letter of July 14th and the map of King's River Canon. You spoke some time ago of sending that map "tomorrow", and the day after your letter came your blue map arrived and also a sketch map of the Canon from Robinson, both of which we have had drawn. Your Canon map is, however, so much better than Robinson's, that we shall throw the latter away.
I hope you will not let yourself be burdened by the article on King's River Canon, but give us about 8000 words. Somewhere in the article, perhaps in the early part of it, be sure to give your reader a comprehensive view of the whole valley, and of course you will not fail to emphasize the beauty of wildness which characterizes it, and also to recommend strongly the reservation of the whole region as indicated in your blue map, upon which already we have drawn the words "Limits of the Proposed National Reservation." As in the case of the Yosemite, "the proposed reservation" is only proposed by you and me, but it will have the same effect of calling public attention to the matter, and I shall

send a copv of the map as soon as possible to Noble and see if we cannot get a bill introduced early in the winter session.
